(4/9/25) Do you live in one of the world’s wealthiest cities? According to a report just released by Henley & Partners, a citizenship and residence advisory firm, New York ranked first in the world as the city with the highest number of high-net-worth individuals.
According to the Top 50 Cities for Millionaires list, New York has 384,500 HNW individuals, including 818 resident centi-millionaires, with liquid wealth of $100 million or more, and 66 billionaires. The Bay Area, which includes San Francisco and Silicon Valley, took second place. It is home to 342,400 resident millionaires – and more billionaires (82) than New York, thanks no doubt to the tech industry based there.
Tokyo ranked third on the list, with 292,300 millionaires, due, Henley says, to a strong recovery of the Nikkei 225 over the past two years.
Henley also publishes a list of the world’s most expensive cities, and Monaco, considered a safe haven for the super-rich, tops the list, with 100- to 200-square-meter (1,076 to 2,152 square feet) apartment prices regularly exceeding $38,800 per square meter. New York City ranks second, followed by Hong Kong and London.
